CULMEA cinematheque in September brings film screenings, activist workshops and the first Climate Walk to Brasov

CULMEA team launches the fourth edition of CULMEA Cinematheque the weekend September 6-8 in Brasov as part of the Street Delivery festival. Coming to the end of the four-issue series, Cinemateca in September explores one of the most important themes for the new generation: environmental activism.

“Through the selection of films from this edition, we discover how we can effectively convey to public authorities, governments and companies that solutions are needed to protect biodiversity, promote the circular economy and eliminate food waste. In addition, we organize one of the first climate walks in Romania — an instrument of the European Climate Pact through which we discover together with the Brazilian public and environmental experts what are the good measures in the city that we want extended to the entire urban space”, declares SAbina Baciu, director of CULMEA: Film and Environmental Education.

The edition debuts on Friday, September 6, from 16:00, with screenings of short films for children (3-12 years old) at CULMEA Pavilion, on Bulevardul Eroilor in the Modarom area. The screening of the documentary will take place at 8:30 p.m.Bigger than us(France, 2021, directed by Flore Vasseur, 1h36 min, 12 years +), the story of Melati, an 18-year-old who has been struggling for six years with the plastic pollution that is wreaking havoc in her country, Indonesia. Like her, an entire generation is getting to work fixing the wrong things in the world. The film was selected at Cannes Film Festival 2021, IDFA Amsterdam 2021, Young About FF Bologna 2021, BUFF Malmö 2022. The screening takes place with the support of the French Institute in Romania.

Saturday, September 7, brings in addition to the series of short film screenings for children and young people (3-12 years), a textile recycling workshop coordinated by Alesia Cîda — a graduate of the London College of Fashion. The workshop takes place between 12:00-14:00, with free access, in the CULMEA Pavilion area. Then, from 14:00, the public is invited to the first climatic poetry blackout, a workshop built on the idea of “found poetry”, which will be coordinated by journalist Patricia Cîrtog, co-author of the new.care newsletter and collaborator Scena9.

On Sunday, September 8, screenings of short films for children and young people continue in the CULMEA Pavilion, which are then followed by a poster workshop with an ecological message, coordinated by artist Lea Rasovszky, from 2pm. The workshop will exclusively use recyclable materials such as cardboard, wood and textiles, and the established message will promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainable behaviors through art and creativity. Participation is free.

For the first time, the Climate Walk takes place in Brasov: Steps to a greener Brasov — how do we demand reforms and how do we protect the positive measures in the city? a CULMEA and Street Delivery Brașov initiative that starts discussions at local level on protecting biodiversity, reducing the heat island effect, non-polluting means of transport and other impact actions. The walk starts from Modarom at 16:00 and is suitable for any age. The route covers the central area, from Modarom to Brasov City Hall, on the side of Nicolae Titulescu Central Park and back on Eroilor Boulevard and covers five important areas related to the proposed themes.

CULMEA — the first environmental festival for children and young people, is running CINEMATECA CULMEA — a monthly cinema that will take place between May and September 2024. The idea of Cinemateca was born with the first edition of CULMEA: Film and Environmental Education festival, which took place in Brasov between 6-10 September 2023. More than 300 children and adults attended screenings of award-winning short and feature films at major film festivals.
