On the weekend 18/19 May the first edition of CULMEA cinematheque takes place — the theme is BIODIVERSITY. In Brasov there will be activities in nature for children and young people guided by experienced environmental educators, walks at dusk to identify bats, and screenings of films designed specifically for young audiences.

PROGRAM:

SATURDAY 18 MAY:

Exploration workshops and guided tours in Brașov
09:00 — 13:00 //Exploring nature in the family — for children 6-10 years old, together with parents

Guided tour by Gentiana Albotă (initiator of the project

4 p.m. — 8 p.m.//Exploration hike with children 12-15 years old

The hike starts from Sub Tâmpa, on the Steps of Gabony, and includes a series of games and explanations about the species of plants and animals present in this ecosystem, but also a great collective game of investigation.

8:30 p.m. — 9:30 p.m. //Twilight tour with and about bats (Bat Walk) for curious adults and children 8+ years

route on Sub Tâmpa guided by Ana Stamatescu, a volunteer for over 7 years at the Center for Research and Conservation of Bats (CCCL) — lilieci.ro and the initiator of the Bat Caravan in which you discover species of bats that surround us and fascinating information about bats in the country and the world.

SUNDAY 19 MAY:

10:00 a.m. KATAK, BRAVE BELUGA(Canada, 2023, directed by Christine Dallaire-Dupont, Nicola Lemay, 1h12m, 6 years +, dubbed in Romanian)

While his companions have all become white, Katak is still small and gray. To prove that he has grown up and to fulfill the last wish of his beloved grandmother, Katak embarks on a dangerous journey north. The film received the Audience Award at the 2023 Montreal International Children's Film Festival and the Best Screenplay Awards Best Art Direction, Audience Award and Jury Special Mention at the 2023 Festival de cinéma en famille de Québec.

14:00 ANIMAL (France, 2020, directed by Cyril Dion, 1h45, 12 years +)

The film documents the adventure of 16-year-old Bella and Vipula: representatives of a generation convinced that their future is compromised: climate change, the sixth mass extinction of species... in 50 years, their world could become uninhabitable. But despite their warnings, nothing really changes. So they decide to go directly to the source of the problem: the relationship of people to the living world. Along an extraordinary journey, they will understand that we are deeply connected to all other species and that by saving them, we will also save ourselves.

Winner of the Young Audience Award of the European Film Academy 2021 in the Cannes 2021 selection, nominated Cesar 2021 for Best Documentary Film.

CINEMATECA CULMEA is a monthly series that will take place between May and September 2024 and is carried out by CULMEA — the first environmental festival for children and young people. The idea of Cinemateca was born with the first edition of CULMEA: Film and Environmental Education festival, which took place in Brasov between 6-10 September 2023. More than 300 children and adults attended screenings of award-winning short and feature films at major film festivals.
