CULMEA Festival reaches its second edition

The second edition of the first environmental film festival aimed at children and young people will take place in Brasov from 16 to 20 October 2024.

Cand:
October 16-20, 2024
Ce:
2nd edition CULMEA: Film and Environmental Education

The festival program brings to the public a selection of award-winning short films at major festivals and feature films for different age categories, from preschoolers to grandparents. Topics such as biodiversity, consumer-based society, food or sustainable transport will be explored cinematically and discussed alongside experienced cultural mediators from the CULMEA team.

During the five days there will be related activities for the young audience: collage workshops, bicycle reconditioning lessons, but also an artistic performance with local seeds. All this will take place in various locations in Brasov, such as Olimpia - the Museum of Mountain Sports and Tourism, the Art Museum, the Zvon cultural dialogue space and the Modern Cinema. In addition, the festival will also expand to the county level through screenings dedicated to the Edubuzz children's community in Augustin and Casa Buna in Sânpetru.

It would be the height of being alone on this planet! But as we behave, things are evolving towards the extinction of more and more species. The tricky part is that we humans are dependent on other creatures: we breathe the oxygen given by plants, and our digestion only works well when we have a flora of beneficial microorganisms inside. And yet, in the last century we let 94% of the seed varieties disappear, 2 million dolphins were in the Black Sea at the beginning of the 20th century, currently 250,000 remain according to Greenpeace Romania. All this needs to be learned and talked about, so the second edition of CULMEA: Film and Environmental Education exists for this purpose and offers a program of short and long films for all ages, from preschoolers (+ 3 years) to seniors (super grandparents), along with creative workshops, exhibitions, debates and community events.
The feature films that we have selected will be an opportunity to discuss how to live in balance with animals of prey (Life among wolves, France, 2023) or with artificial intelligence (The robot child, Estonia, 2023), about rewriting some social norms to take place with children on bicycles in traffic (Mother's luggage, USA, 2019) or about trusting that some 12 year olds know best how to make a happy hen business (Coco Farm, Canada, 2023). In addition, we will also have movies with dolphins, seeds, butterflies, ducks (schooled!), guards and flycatchers.” says Raluca Bugnar, artistic director of CULMEA festival.

The full program will be announced from October 7 on the festival website www.culmeafestival.com, and tickets will be on sale on eventbook.ro.
