The climate walk aimed to bring local communities closer together, from children, young people and adults, all interested in environmental topics, with the aim of looking at the city through the prism of climate adaptation.
“A climate walk is recommended by the European Climate Pact as a handy tool for civic engagement and information on environmental topics. Thus, we had the opportunity to lay the foundations of the first climate walk in the city, in which we identify islands of urban resilience at the level of Brasov and gather the community around the good things that we want preserved and extended throughout the city”, said Sabina Baciu, director of CULMEA: Film and Environmental Education.
“Street Delivery is a manifesto for face-to-face human interaction, not bar to bar. We believe that every citizen has the right to enjoy a friendlier, smarter, greener and livelier city and that the streets are made for people. We believe that a working tool such as the Climate Walk will help us in the future to activate the local community more often on different urban themes that concern us all.” said Timea Honț, Cărturești Foundation.
For an hour, on the route from Modarom to Nicolae Titulescu Central Park, five invited experts gave a five-minute presentation and answered the participants' questions, on topics such as: Velo Masterplan and urban mobility and the impact of transport on the environment, electric car charging stations; electric emissions versus gasoline and how this energy is produced in Brasov, public areas and the importance of shared spaces dedicated to pedestrians, urban reconversions adapted to rising temperatures, biodiversity in the city and how long it takes to grow a tree, but also about strategies at city, country and EU level, plans in the works.
